The market thinks it knows these five games. It rarely knows anything. Here is where the numbers feel wrong, or too right, or simply worth shouting about with strangers online.

Napoli vs Lazio β€” 47% home / 26% draw / 27% away

The market makes Napoli clear favourites. Conte's side sit top of Serie A. They have conceded six goals in eleven games.

Lazio have won seven straight in all competitions. Pedro turns 37 in July and still starts every week. Baroni has them pressing like maniacs for sixty minutes, then managing the game like veterans.

The 27% for Lazio feels like disrespect for momentum. Or maybe it is correct respect for Napoli's control at the Diego Maradona. Conte does not lose home games to teams he has studied for a week.

Is seven straight wins for Lazio just a hot streak, or have they actually become something?

Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona β€” 26% home / 23% draw / 52% away

The market gives Barcelona better than even money. 52% implied probability for a win at the Metropolitano.

Flick's team have scored 40 goals in 12 La Liga games. Lewandowski has 14 of them. They look like a machine built for exactly this kind of statement performance.

But Simeone has lost once at home in the league since February 2023. Once. The 26% for Atletico feels like it forgets this place exists. 70,000 people who make visiting teams miserable. Griezmann against his old club. Alvarez finding form.

Barcelona are terrifying right now. The market says they should be. But 52% at the Metropolitano?

Do you trust Flick's attack or Simeone's wall more?

Al Sadd vs Al Ahli Jeddah β€” 32% home / 27% draw / 41% away

The market leans Al Ahli. 41% for the Saudi side away in Doha.

Mahrez, Firmino, IbaΓ±ez. Names that still feel surreal in this competition. Al Ahli have spent like the rules are suggestions. They sit second in the Saudi Pro League.

Al Sadd have Xavi on the touchline. Akram Afif, the Asian Player of the Year, still there despite every European link. This is a home game in front of fans who remember when Al Sadd were the region's superpower, before the Saudi money shifted everything.

The 32% for Al Sadd feels like the market adjusting for reputation, not current reality. Or maybe it undervalues what Xavi can organise in a one-off game.

Is AFC Champions League still a competition, or just a preview of where Saudi teams will dominate?

Elche vs Real Betis β€” 30% home / 26% draw / 44% away

The market says Betis win nearly half the time. Elche are 18th in Segunda last season, promoted, now sitting mid-table through stubbornness.

Pellegrini's Betis have Europa League on Thursday. They always have Europa League on Thursday. The squad is thin. Isco carries too much. Fornals has not found rhythm.

Elche at home are different. MartΓnez has them organised, frustrating. They beat Sevilla here last month. The 30% feels low for a team that knows exactly what it is against a team that might be distracted by bigger fixtures.

But Betis have quality. Fekir off the bench. Cardoso controlling tempo. The 44% could be generous or obvious.

Do Thursday nights in Europe kill Sunday afternoons in Spain, or is that just something fans say to feel better?

Barcelona Guayaquil vs LDU Quito β€” 35% home / 29% draw / 36% away

The market cannot split them. 35% home, 36% away, basically a coin flip with slight preference for LDU.

LDU Quito won the first stage of LigaPro. They are the better team by every table and metric. Paolo Guerrero still scores at 40. The altitude of Quito makes them monsters at home.

But this is not Quito. This is Guayaquil, sea level, humidity, Barcelona's actual home. The yellow and black of Monumental Banco Pichincha. LDU's away form is mid-table at best.

The 36% for LDU feels like the market looking at the overall table and ignoring geography. Or maybe Barcelona Guayaquil are just not good enough for home advantage to matter against organised opposition.

When a league has two completely different geographies, does "away" even mean the same thing?
