Football points calculator

Three calculations in one page: turn a record into points, work out the maximum total with games left, and find out how many wins it takes to catch the team above. No signup, no tracking.

1 Β· Record to points

Convert a win / draw / loss record into a points total.

Points35

10 Γ— 3 + 5 Γ— 1 = 35 Β· 1.94 points per game

2 Β· Maximum possible points

With games left to play, what is the highest total this team can reach?

Points available60
Maximum total95

3 Β· Points needed to catch a rival

How many wins does this team need to match the team above them?

Gap25
Wins needed9
Still possible: 9 wins from 20 remaining games would be enough. That leaves 11 games of margin.

All calculations assume 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. Some competitions award different values; change the β€œPts / win” field above to match.

Frequently asked questions

How are points calculated in a football league?
In most leagues a win is worth 3 points, a draw is worth 1 point, and a loss is worth 0. So a record of 10 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses is 10 Γ— 3 + 5 = 35 points from 18 games. Some competitions use different values β€” change the "Pts / win" field in the calculator to match yours.
What is the maximum number of points a team can get?
Multiply the number of games remaining by the points awarded for a win, then add the team's current total. With 3 points for a win, 20 games left is a maximum of 60 more points.
How many wins does a team need to catch the team above them?
Take the points gap, divide by the points awarded for a win, and round up. A draw does not reduce the gap, so only wins count when catching up. The calculator above does this for any inputs.
Can a team with a game in hand be ahead?
Yes β€” a table does not account for games played. A team with fewer games played may be behind on points but ahead on points per game. That is why the calculator shows points per game alongside the total.
Why do some leagues award different points?
The 3-1-0 system is the most common, but not universal. Some competitions have used 2 points for a win historically, and some youth or amateur leagues use different values. The field is editable so the same calculator works for any system.
